Seven Cozy Reads for Fall

Happy Fall, Friends!

What’s your idea of cozy? Maybe it’s loading your porch with quirky pumpkins, transitioning your living space with soft throws, or curling up with a warm beverage. These may or may not be a few of my favorite fall things …

As I write this post, crisp blue flourishes in the sky and a smattering of bright leaves nestle into the yard. Can I get a heart-eyes emoji, please and thank you? 😍 Fall is truly my favorite season. Over the years, Hope and I have often chatted about how books can bring us that sense of cozy. There’s an exhilarating feeling of change but also comfort that this season ushers in, and because of that, I wanted to write about seven books that I hope will make your fall even cozier.

Anne of Green Gables

Perhaps you’ve heard of this timeless classic, but never actually read it. This book comes attached with so much nostalgia for me. I always wanted to be Anne, exploring the world of Prince Edward Island that L.M. Montgomery writes in such a warm and welcoming way. A delightful cast of characters, strong community, and lush setting make this such a comfort read. Also, who hasn’t had a crush on literary dreamboat Gilbert Blythe?!

A Gentleman in Moscow

Hope recommended this book to me a while back, and WOW. A Gentleman in Moscow is an amazingly immersive read. If you are a fan of fast-moving, action-driven narratives, this might not be the tale for you, but if you want a book that draws you fully into another time period and place, this story checks all the boxes. You will feel like the Count is an old friend by the time you’ve finished his story, and the hotel where he lives will feel like it’s your home too.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

Full disclosure…this title is such a mouthful that I frequently just call it the Potato Peel Pie book! Written exclusively as a collection of letters, the story introduces readers to a fascinating society in Guernsey where books are treasured just as much as dear friendships. Plus, there’s a heartwarming romance as well, (always a plus, am I right?) Netflix has a wonderful movie adaptation that is worth adding to your fall watchlist!

A Man Called Ove

Fredik Backman has recently become one of my favorite authors. He writes characters in such a realistic way that anyone can identify with, plus his writing is beautiful! A Man Called Ove was one of my earlier reads from this year, and I came away from it realizing that we probably all know an Ove in our lives. I wanted to give this fictional character a hug and sit down for a neighborly chat with him. This story of a family who grows to know and love their grumpy old neighbor will melt your heart in the best possible way.

One Plus One

Hope loves JoJo Moyes' novels, so I had to include this title on my list! While Me Before You might be Moyes' better-known title, you should consider checking out some of her other works. Hope and I adore her quirky writing style and the way she draws her characters so fabulously. This novel gives you laugh-out-loud moments and highlights the selflessness, friendship, and love of an imperfect family all in one hard-to-put-down read.

All Creatures Great and Small

If you are an animal lover, this book is singing your name right now! All Creatures Great and Small incorporates stories about real-life people and the special connection you have with your pets. This book also places us in a wonderful English countryside setting during WWII. Hope and I have a deep-rooted love of all things British, literature included, so this book is a perfect addition to our fall reading list.

A Discovery of Witches

Since it’s October, I couldn’t conclude this list without at least one “spooky” read, right? (More on our favorite spooky reads to come!) While this book weaves in plenty of supernatural elements, Hope and I actually consider A Discovery of Witches to be such a cozy read! Maybe it’s the academic setting, the frequenting of libraries, or the number of sweaters Diana wears and how often she’s drinking tea?! All I know is that I want to visit Oxford and meet a vampire there immediately. On second thought, let’s keep vampires in the literary world for now.

So what are your favorite fall reads, Friends? Send us your coziest suggestions!

Also, is anyone else obsessed with warty pumpkins, or is that just me?

Your friend with a pen,

Kaitlyn
